Upgrade a site to Pro or Max

Move a site from Free to Pro or Max, or from Pro to Max, pay monthly or yearly, and understand why plan changes only go up.

On this page
  1. Step 1: open Plan & Usage
  2. Step 2: pick monthly or yearly
  3. Step 3: upgrade
  4. Plan changes only go up
  5. After you upgrade

Every site starts on the Free plan. When a site needs more pages, more storage, a custom domain or any other paid feature, you upgrade that site from its Plan & Usage page. Plans are per site, so upgrading one site does not change your other sites.

Step 1: open Plan & Usage

  1. Open the site in the dashboard.
  2. Choose Plan & Usage in the sidebar, under Manage. On a Free site you can also click Upgrade your Free plan at the top of the sidebar.

The page starts with a card that tells you which plan the site is on. Below it, Choose your plan shows the three plans side by side.

Step 2: pick monthly or yearly

Use the Monthly / Yearly switch above the plan cards. The yearly option shows the price per month and, underneath, what you are billed per year. Paying yearly saves 25%.

Pro Max
Monthly $12 per month $24 per month
Yearly $108 per year $216 per year

The amounts are the same in dollars and euros. Your currency is set when you create your account and cannot be changed afterwards.

Step 3: upgrade

Click Upgrade to Pro (Monthly), Upgrade to Max (Yearly) or whichever option you chose. What happens next depends on where the site is now.

From Free. The button shows Preparing checkout... and you are taken to a secure checkout page run by our payment provider. Enter your payment details there. When you come back to the dashboard, a Finishing your transaction... card appears for a moment while the provider confirms the payment, then the page updates on its own and shows Subscription active. You do not need to refresh.

From Pro to Max, or from monthly to yearly. There is no checkout. The change is applied immediately and the difference for the rest of your current billing period is charged straight away to the payment method already on file. The button shows Upgrading..., and once the provider confirms you see Plan updated.

After the upgrade the top card reads, for example, You're on Pro (Yearly) with the date the subscription renews.

Plan changes only go up

You can always move to an option that costs more than what you pay now: a higher plan, a longer billing period, or both. Moving to an option that costs the same or less is not available from the plan cards. Those cards show a note such as Contact us if you need to downgrade to the Pro Monthly plan instead of a button.

This also applies across billing periods. If you pay $108 per year for Pro, you can move to Max yearly ($216 per year) but not to Max monthly ($24 per month), because the monthly price is lower than what you pay today.

To reduce a site's plan, cancel its subscription and let it run out; you can then subscribe to a different plan or move the site to Free. See Cancel a subscription and What happens when a site moves to Free.

Tip: Not sure which plan you need? Compare plans lists every limit, and the Usage card on the Plan & Usage page shows how close the site is to its current ones.

After you upgrade

  • Paid features are available immediately: connect a custom domain, hide the "Powered by FolioPage" link, add custom code, use premium sections, protect pages with a password.
  • Your live site is refreshed automatically, so the change shows to visitors without a manual update.
  • The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel it.
  • A Manage Billing button appears on the Plan & Usage page for invoices and payment details; see Invoices and payment method.
