About Easel

Easel is a one-page portfolio template for printmakers - linocut, woodcut, screen print, etching - built so the work is the first and almost the only thing on the page. The homepage opens on a wall of prints laid in justified rows at their own proportions, each sheet resting on chalk-white paper with a soft shadow and a handwritten pencil line under it: the edition, the title, the signature and the year. Hover any print and it turns over to the block that printed it, mirror image, so a visitor sees how each piece was made without leaving the wall.

Under the wall, one block is pulled in five inks - bone black, oxide red, Prussian blue, sap green, raw umber - from a single picture, the way a printmaker proofs a block on the shelf. A short about strip follows with a small portrait, sixty words, a row of techniques and a blind stamp embossed into the page; then the shows and fairs of the last five years read along a ruler, and a bare-lined contact form closes the page.

The design is hand and paper: Caveat sets every heading and pencil line as the printmaker's own handwriting, Domine prints the rest, and the palette is chalk white, graphite and one oxide-red ink, with a printer's control strip stepping both inks under the header. The Portfolio app carries the series - nine galleries of prints attached in pairs with their blocks, filtered by technique on a hang-line index and shown pair by pair on each series page. Swap in your own prints and blocks, keep the pairs in order, and the wall does the rest.
