Delete or restore a site

Delete a site from its Settings page, restore it within the recovery window, and understand what happens to billing, domains and content.

Deleting a site takes it offline straight away and stops its billing, but nothing is thrown away yet. The site sits in Recently deleted for 7 days, and you can put it back exactly as it was with one click. After the window it is permanently removed.

Delete a site

  1. Open the site in your dashboard and choose Settings in the sidebar.
  2. Scroll to the Danger zone card and click Delete site.
  3. In the Delete this site dialog, type the first part of the site's address (the part before .folio.page) to confirm.
  4. Click Delete site.

You are taken back to Your sites, and we email you a message titled with the site's name followed by "has been deleted". It states the exact date the site is removed for good.

What happens immediately

  • Visitors see a page saying the site does not exist, on the subdomain and on any custom domain.
  • A paid subscription on the site is cancelled right away, not at the end of the billing period, so you are not charged again. Other sites on your account are not affected.
  • The site disappears from Your sites and from the site switcher.
  • Your Free site slot is not freed yet. A deleted site still counts as your one Free site until it is permanently removed, so a new site you create in the meantime waits for a paid plan.

Everything else - pages, design, media, portfolio items, posts, links, resume, domain settings - is kept untouched for the whole recovery window.

Restore a site

  1. Go to Your sites: click the FolioPage logo at the bottom of the sidebar (its tooltip reads My Sites), or open your dashboard home.
  2. Scroll to the Recently deleted section. Each site shows how many days are left.
  3. Click Restore next to the site.

The site comes back with all its content and its publish state. If it was live before, it is live again.

A restored site does not get its paid subscription back. It returns on its previous plan with the subscription marked as ended, and the sidebar shows Subscription ended. Open Plan & Usage to subscribe again or click Move to Free plan. Until you pick one, visitors see a placeholder page instead of your site. See Cancel a subscription.

What happens after 7 days

A couple of days before the deadline we email you one last reminder. Once the window closes the site is deleted permanently:

  • all pages, design settings, apps and their content are erased;
  • every file in the site's media library is removed from our storage;
  • a connected custom domain is disconnected, and the site's address stops leading anywhere.

This cannot be undone by you or by us, so restore anything you might need before the deadline.

Warning: Need a site gone sooner than 7 days? Reply to the deletion email and ask us to remove it now. We delete it by hand, usually within one working day. That gives up the recovery window immediately, so only ask if you are certain.

Deleting every site

Deleting your sites does not close your account. You can keep logging in, create a new site later, and your profile and preferences stay as they are. To close the account itself, see Delete your account.
