About Focal

Focal is a one-page portfolio for wildlife and long-lens photographers, built as a showcase on a near-black ground: the work comes first, at size, and the site is the camera you see it through.

The homepage opens on one full-bleed frame seen through the viewfinder - corner brackets, a level line, an AF point that locks on load and a mono readout strip along the foot. Below it, a wall of thirty-six frames in 3:2 finder cells that fit every picture rather than cropping it, each frame coming up soft and racking to sharp as it scrolls into view, with a readout of the lens and exposure under it. The galleries follow on a playback screen: one big cover with its info bar beside a rail of the others that swap in as you rest on them. A sixty-word about strip with counted tally chips, three offers with a season bar under each showing the months they run, and a bare-lined booking form close the page.

Type is Abel over IBM Plex Sans, with mono readouts wherever the camera would print one. The palette is a neutral near-black with one signal color, the green of a focus-confirm lamp, held to links, the active nav and the lit AF points, so the photographs carry every other color on the site.

The Portfolio app is wired as twelve galleries of nine to ten captioned frames in four categories, on a masonry index with a slider detail, and the location, season, lens and nights of every gallery feed the playback screen. Replace the frames with your own, keep the readouts, and the finder does the rest.
